Reaching the Jump-off Point
By Taxi:
- To make the most of your trek to Mt. Ulap, it’s advisable to start early in the morning. Aim to arrive at the Ampucao Barangay Hall by around 4 AM. Since public jeepneys from Baguio City to Ampucao, Itogon, Benguet do not operate at these early hours, we recommend arranging a taxi. Keep in mind that taxis must be hired on a contract basis due to the distance from the city, with rates typically ranging from Php 1,000 to Php 2,000. The fare varies based on the number of passengers and your negotiation skills. Additionally, our local taxi drivers are known for their kindness and courtesy, so please consider rewarding their good service with a generous fare.
Registering and Hiring a Guide
- Registration: Once you arrive in Ampucao, proceed directly to the barangay hall to complete your registration. You’ll be required to pay a registration fee of Php 100 per person and an environmental permit fee of Php 30 per person. Hiring a tour guide is both mandatory and strongly recommended for safety and enhanced exploration. The current fee for a tour guide is Php 1,000, which covers up to 7 hikers. If your group includes more than 7 individuals—say 14 members—you will need to hire two tour guides. Please note that prices are subject to change.
